Kargil war porters under the banner of All India Porters Union (AIPU) held a protest demonstration near Maharaja Hari Singh Park, Jammu demanding Government jobs to them as promised by the authorities when they were asked to join the Army and serve as porters during the Kargil war in 1999. Kewal Sharma, who is leading the protest, said that on the orders of the Government of India, our battalion was recruited when the country needed us and we risked our lives and came to the forefront. He said that now we are in dire need of government help but unfortunately we are being deliberately deprived of our rights.
