Top wrestlers, Bajranj Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phoghat, and others continued their fresh sit-in protest at Delhi Jantar Mantar on Saturday against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of sexually exploiting women wrestlers. Seven women wrestlers filed separate police complaints against the MP on April 21, accusing him of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation over a 10-year period from 2012 to 2022. Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi reached the protest site on Saturday morning and extended her support to the grapplers. The Delhi Police on Friday registered two FIRs in connection with sexual harassment allegations levelled by women wrestlers against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. One of the FIRs is over a complaint of sexual harassment by a minor, filed under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. This came after the Supreme Court issued notices to the Delhi Police and others on a plea by seven women wrestlers seeking registration of an FIR against the WFI chief. Several leaders from Congress and Trinamool Congress also came out in support of the athletes. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also visit the protesting wrestlers today.
