Turkey’s President Tayyip Erdogan has met with NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg on Sunday after the NATO Chief called on Ankara to drop its opposition to Sweden’s bid to join the US-led defence alliance. Sweden’s path to NATO membership remained blocked by Turkey and Hungary even though its neighbour Finland officially joined the 30-member alliance in April after its application was ratified in record time. Pressure is building on Erdogan to greenlight Sweden’s NATO membership ahead of a summit planned for July in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius. Stoltenberg tried to make a strong case for Sweden.
