Riot police have launched a fresh assault on Kiev’s Independence Square just hours after talks broke down between the president and his opponents.
The latest move comes after the Ukrainian health ministry said 25 people had died after the worst day of fighting since the nationwide demonstrations began in November. Another 241 have been injured in the clashes.
According to the Interfax news agency nine of those killed were police officers.
